Polkadot App Privacy Notice
1. What does this notice cover?
This privacy notice (this “notice”) describes the processing of personal data in relation to the users of the Polkadot App (the “App”; such users referred to as “you” “your”, “yours”) and its functionalities that the Polkadot Community Foundation (a company registered in the Cayman Islands under company number CY-411999) (also referred to as “the PCF”, “we” or “us”) is responsible for as controller, in compliance with applicable data protection laws.
It also describes your data protection rights and choices.
Depending on where you are located, please see the applicable local Annex for further information about how your personal data is processed.
2. Updates to this notice
We may update this notice from time to time. If we make any changes, we will change the “last updated” date set out above. Where required by applicable law we will notify you with, or request your acceptance of, the new version of this notice – we may be required to do this when we make any substantial updates, for example. We may also notify you in other ways from time to time about the processing of your personal data. We encourage you to periodically review this notice for the latest information on our privacy practices. Any modifications to this notice will be effective upon our posting of the updated notice.
Where required and valid under applicable law, your continued use of the App and its functionalities following the posting of any updated notice indicates your acceptance of this notice.
3. Personal data processed through the App
When you interact with the App and its functionalities, the following personal data may be directly uploaded by you, without any of this content being retained or otherwise used by us:
- Wallet information: your public wallet address and username. This also includes wallet addresses associated with each coin transferred between users by way of the App’s private payment functionality (a “coin address”);
- Transaction and airdrop information: your stored, swapped and purchased cryptocurrencies, transactions to and from your Polkadot wallet to other Polkadot wallets and external wallets, records of cryptocurrency swaps, transaction metadata (such as transaction date and time), the type and amount of digital assets associated with your public wallet address, and winnings in airdrop games associated with your wallet address. This includes transaction and airdrop information you have provided directly to decentralised hosts of the blockchain (called “nodes”);
- UGC: your user-generated content (“UGC”), such as 1:1, group or public channel chat content, audio chat content, or video chat content (including video call content as required to demonstrate proof of personhood through the App’s “Proof of Video Interaction” functionality (“Proof of Video Interaction”));
- Membership status: a record of the fact you have attained Membership status (in the form of a Polkadot-issued digital ID), which will be associated with a separate public wallet address (your “membership key”);
- Personal details: your name, email address or other identifying details (e.g. date of birth) you provide to us through the App;
- Usage information: information about your interaction with the App and its functionalities, including specific screens accessed and UI elements interacted with. These are recorded to help improve the App and ensure that we are providing the best experience to our users. This may be linked with your device information; for more information see the Polkadot App Tracking Notice;
- Device information: information related to the device you use to access the App, including the app version you have installed, your operating system and version, phone make and model IP and other similar device information, and third-party authentication identifiers associated with your device. For more information see the Polkadot App Tracking Notice;
- Marketing information: your preferences for receiving email, in-app and push marketing information and communications from us;
- Feedback / Correspondence Information: including complaints, reports, comments, suggestions or other input information shared with us regarding the App and your interaction with other users on the App, and our products and services; and
- Other Information: we may collect other personal data that you provide to us which is not specifically listed in this notice, for example where this is necessary to provide the App’s functionalities. We will process such personal data at all times in accordance with applicable data protection laws and as disclosed in this notice, or as otherwise disclosed at the time of collection.
Sometimes, we are a controller in respect of personal data that you do not provide directly. In particular, this may include:
- authentication tokens from third party authentication service providers;
- UGC which has been reported to us by other users who have interacted with you via those features;
- price information based on the types and amount of digital assets you hold in your wallet from pricing providers;
- information from third party or PCF affiliate publishers of decentralised apps which are hosted on the blockchain and made accessible to you on the App (“Mini Apps”), such as transaction information about the transaction you requested the Mini App to initiate, usage information, and [●];
- information from other third parties we work with (including contractors and service providers), such as [●]; and
- information from publicly available sources (including public records, social media platforms and public blockchains), such as [●].
4. Privacy when using the App for interaction with a blockchain
Please note that certain of your personal data using the App may be recorded on a public blockchain or in publicly available file-storage.
Public blockchains are distributed ledgers, intended to immutably record transactions across wide networks of computer systems. If you interact with the App or a Mini App to initiate a transaction, including registering your username, purchasing, sending, swapping or paying with crypto, the App will record your public wallet address (like a digital account number) or coin address, selected username, and certain transaction and airdrop information on the blockchain. While this information doesn’t contain your name, it is stored on the blockchain where all transactions are transparent and viewable by anyone in principle for as long as the blockchain exists. This transparency is a core feature of most blockchains, ensuring trust and security.
Where you use our private payment functionality to transfer coin to another user, the coin address visible on the blockchain will be unique to each coin - which makes it more difficult for a third party to piece together information about all transactions associated with you. However, the coin address will still be unique to you.
In addition, your personal data may be made publicly available when you do any of the following:
- If you interact with another user, for example on 1:1, group, audio or video chat: the fact that your account (but not your specific username) has sent a message, alongside the encrypted message, will be temporarily visible to the public until the message is received by the recipient or until the temporary storage period for the message lapses. However, only the recipient user of your message will be able to decrypt it.
- If your Membership status is verified using Proof of Video Interaction content: your Membership status and Membership key (which is a separate public wallet address) will be publicly available on the blockchain.
In several of these above listed scenarios, your personal data (for example your transaction and airdrop information, and Membership status) is made public alongside a public wallet address. By itself, your public wallet address doesn’t directly identify you. However, it makes you identifiable because it allows you to be singled out and treated differently to other users of the blockchain. In addition, if it’s linked to other information -like if you share your address publicly, use your full name as your username, use it on a service that knows your identity, or interact with platforms that track user activity - this may lead to you becoming directly identifiable.
We also want to note that because blockchains are decentralized or third-party networks which are designed to be immutable as a key security and integrity feature, we may not be able in all circumstances to erase, modify, or alter personal data on such networks, although where possible we will implement a measure to achieve a substantially similar result in order to comply with the requirements of applicable data protection law.
However, it also means you should be mindful of how and where you use your public wallet address if you want to protect your privacy. You should also be mindful of the format in which you upload other information to the blockchain which you associate with your public wallet address.
5. How your personal data is being processed
Your personal data will be processed for the following purposes only:
- to create an account, username and self-hosted wallet on the App;
- to provide you with services, including chat and other user interaction functionality, cryptocurrency swap and private payment functionality, interoperability with Third Party Apps, and the ability to verify Membership using Proof of Video Interaction functionality;
- to moderate UGC where this is reported to us by other users. For example, images of specific users in Proof of Video Interaction content may be blurred for a user who has reported them;
- to manage our relationship with you, including communicating with you about the App, security alerts, push notifications on receipt of new chat messages, and support and administrative messages;
- to manage and operate the App, including to check you are using the required version of the App, to monitor for fraudulent activity, and to ensure its security. Where information on your device is stored or accessed for this purpose, see the Polkadot App Tracking Notice;
- to carry out analytics into the App and your use of our products and services in order to update, develop and improve the App and our products and services. Your personal data may be de-identified or aggregated for this purpose. Where information on your device is stored or accessed for this purpose, see the Polkadot App Tracking Notice;
- to promote and market our products and services, including to send announcements, updates, promotions, advertisements, and marketing materials that may be of interest to you. Note that we will only use your personal data to send such materials to you if you have signed up or have otherwise elected to receive email in-app or push marketing communications from us. At any stage, you may opt out of receiving our marketing communications by clicking on the link provided at the bottom of each marketing message or by going into the App’s settings. Where information on your device is stored or accessed for this purpose, see the Polkadot App Tracking Notice;
- to comply with the law and to maintain security of our App;
- with your consent, or as otherwise disclosed at the time information is collected; and
- to take certain actions that you have asked us to, and where necessary or relevant, obtain prior necessary consents for us to take those actions.
Note that information that does not identify you (including information that has been de-identified or aggregated) may be processed without limitation in jurisdictions where this no longer constitutes personal data, except as prohibited by applicable law.
6. Who receives your personal data
The following parties may have or gain access to your personal data, depending on the context and the actions you take:
- third party or PCF affiliate App publishers, when you access and initiate a transaction on ani App.
- third-party service providers to perform functions on our behalf, including mobile app design, development and management services, and wallet development and support services;

- prospective buyer/sellers, new owners and our and their legal advisers in the event that our business is sold or integrated with another business, including as part of a bankruptcy proceeding;
- to any other third parties to the extent such disclosure is required under applicable law or permitted with your consent or as otherwise disclosed at the time of data collection or sharing; and
- to take certain actions that you have asked us to, and where necessary or relevant, obtain necessary consents for us to take those actions.
Note that information that does not identify you (including information that has been de-identified or aggregated) may be shared without limitation in jurisdictions where this is no longer personal data, except as prohibited by applicable law.
7. Legal basis for processing personal data
We consider it necessary that your personal data is processed for the purposes described above in this notice, in reliance on the following legal bases (which may differ depending on jurisdiction). If you are located in the EEA/UK, please see the EEA/UK annex for information on how each legal basis maps to the relevant processing purpose and categories of data.

Polkadot App Tracking Notice
Last Updated: [●]
This Polkadot App Tracking Notice (this “notice”) applies to the Polkadot App (the “App”). You may access and change your tracking preferences at any time by clicking [here].
1. What are tracking technologies?
The Polkadot Community Foundation (the “PCF”, “we” or “us” in the rest of this policy) uses tracking technologies in the App to store and access information on your device.
In particular, we use [software development kits (“SDKs”), which are ready-made pieces of code included in our App that can send information from your mobile device to third parties, as well as pixels and tags. We may also combine different pieces of information obtained automatically from your device in order to identify you and analyse your activity in the App.] When we talk about tracking technologies in this notice, this term refers to all of these technologies and other similar technologies.
We process personal data as part of our deployment of tracking technologies. If you would like more information about our privacy practices, please consult the Polkadot App Privacy Policy.
2. “Session” and “Persistent” tracking technologies
Tracking technologies can work on a “session” or “persistent” basis. For example, an SDK may only track your activity during a single session for which you play the App; or it may track on a persistent basis, and remember the information it had previously collected the next time you enter the App.
3. What tracking technologies do we use, what information to they collect and how long are they stored for?
You can find more information about the individual tracking technologies we use and the purposes for which we use them in the table below:
| Type | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | These tracking technologies are essential for us to provide you with the App. Without these tracking technologies, we would not be able to provide you with the App on a technical level, or we would not be able to comply with our obligations under applicable laws. For example, we use strictly necessary tracking technologies to whether the App is running on a genuine, unmodified device (a “Proof of Unique Device” check). |
| Analytics | These tracking technologies help us improve or optimise the experience we provide. They allow us to measure how players interact with the App, and we use this information to improve the user experience and performance of the App. |
| Functional | We may use tracking technologies that are not essential but enable various helpful features in the App. For example, these tracking technologies collect information about your interaction with the App and may be used to remember your preferences (such as your language preference), your interests and the presentation of the App on your phone (such as the font size). |
| Advertising | We use these tracking technologies to collect information about your in-App activity in order to make in- App advertising more relevant to you and your interests, as well as to personalise advertising to you and others similar to you on third party sites and apps. They are also used to help measure the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns and help us understand the nature of our audiences. |
4. Third parties
Some tracking technologies we use in the App are built by third parties. You should review the privacy and cookie policies of these third parties to find out how they use tracking technologies and whether your device information will be transferred to a third country.
[A list of the third parties who place tracking technologies on the App can be found here.]
OR
[Example]
| Purpose | Third party | Expiry |
|---|---|---|
| Analytics | Google Firebase | [Insert expiry period] |
| Etc. |
5. Your choices
Where required by applicable law in certain jurisdictions, you will be asked to consent prior to the deployment of any tracking technologies used for non-essential purposes. Your consent can be withdrawn at any time.
You can access and change any choices you have made in relation to tracking technologies in the App using the preference centre here.
If you have any questions about what we have said in this policy or how we deploy tracking technologies, you can contact us about it by emailing info@polkadotcommunity.foundation.
